This is a lovely space, with a variety of seating types (booth, high top by bar, square table, outdoor/screened porch seating), and the waitstaff is friendly and welcoming. I’ve never ordered anything here I didn’t love, but this time I was there for the terrific happy hour — 1 off drinks and half price appetizers! We got beers from their choice of local taps and after enjoying the taste of pimiento cheese and crackers they bring every table, we dug in on the appetizers. The Smashed Guacamole is a MUST, the best in the city, and we added the Crunchy Catfish and Slaw and the Barbacoa Stackers. YUM. This filled us up, but we couldn’t resist a takeout order of Apple Cobbler. Every single bite we had at Jack Allen’s was outstanding! ”

He suggested what to go with and even brought a sample of the appetizer that we had first shortlisted. “ Consistently impressed by this restaurant! Their food and drinks are fantastic! This time I tried the frozen pomegranate sangria margarita (strong but delicious!) and the Fat Burger with sweet potato fries. Those sweet potato fries are addictive and while they were delicious and flavorful enough on their own, the garlic aioli this came with made them my new favorite sweet potato fries. The burger was good, especially the bun, and was so large that I couldn't finish it in one sitting! My only gripe with this restaurant is they have a lot of spicy ingredients on their menu (jalapeno and other chilis in 90% of their dishes), so me and my "can't handle heat" taste buds have to order carefully. They were flexible enough to sub the jalapeno mayo for regular mayo on my burger, so that definitely helps me find items I can order there. ”

“ Great happy hour Monday-Friday 3-630 with half off appetizers and 2 off drinks. Loved their smoked brisket quesadilla. The place maintains a local feel and flavors. They have a high indoor dining area of tables, booths, and bar seating, including a back room that looks out on the creek. They share a large free parking lot with adjacent businesses in the strip mall. It's just a block from mopac. ”

“ Jack Allen’s is always such a good option. I like to call it boujee chilis because it has such a wide variety of foods that are agreeable with so many people but also it’s so much better than chilis. I got the Tejana enchilada and it is so good! I love the fried egg that goes on the top of it all. The smashed guacamole is amazing and the chips and salsa are also always a staple at the table. Great place to eat in Austin! ”

“ I came here with hubby and one of our kids who was craving a burger. I haven’t been to JAK for quite a while because it was good but it wasn’t memorable. Boy, was I glad I decided to come back!! We got the shrimp fundido which was delicious when paired with the perfectly grilled tortillas. Then, we got a Caesar salad with Ruby trout - we were thinking it would come with a small piece of fish but wow, they don’t skimp on fish servings! It was so good. Then, we got the beef barbacoa enchiladas- the escabech was perfect since it needed acidity. And it was a good portion size to share. My daughter got the Killer Burger and she could barely finish it! She said it was exactly what she was craving, cooked to Medium temperature. ”
